    Authenticity Disclosure:
    Buyers beware!
It is easy to be misled by words and prices when it comes to buying Pearls.
There is an overabundance of Chinese Freshwater Pearls on the market. Many of which have been dyed or irradiated to imitate the natural coloring of Tahitian or South Sea Cultured Pearls. There is nothing wrong with Freshwater Pearls, except in the case when the consumer thinks they are buying authentic Tahitian or South Sea Cultured Pearls, while in fact purchasing undisclosed treated Freshwater Pearls.
Freshwater Pearls come naturally in cream, off white, pink, mauve, and lavender, but never in the Tahitian or Golden South Sea Pearl color range.
When encountering the word “genuine” beware!
The Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and other American consumer groups, recognize the word genuine only when it applies to naturally formed pearls: pearls found in shells without human intervention. “Authentic” is the word to be used when it comes to cultured Pearls. So, when a seller has blasted the word genuine all over their site, you know their intent, knowledge, or research is left to question.
Shell Pearls and Shell beads. Don’t get confused! In the US, they can’t legally use the word pearl, except when the word “imitation” is used in conjunction. Pearl is only used for the actual pearl that was harvested from and oyster; like Freshwater, Akoya or South Sea Cultured Pearls.
